Taste

Boyacá is a department of Colombia whose capital is the city of Tunja. It is a beautiful place where you can have many unforgettable experiences, and where you can also try a lot of tasty food that makes your mouth water. People who travel to Boyacá will not want to leave... so, have you ever been to Boyacá? If you haven't you should come!
 

 


What will you do in Boyacá?

Boyacá has many activities according to the preferences and the personality of the tourists:
  • For adventurous people: they are going to have a long walk through beautiful landscapes like La Sierra Nevada del Cocuy.
  • For ecological people: They are going to take many photos of the fauna and flora of this park. Also they are going to have some conferences about the environment.




  • For people who are very keen on arts: they are going to visit some museums and they are going to learn about the culture, the traditions and the craft work of Boyaca.
  • For the kids: they are going to be able to attend some handicrafts courses, and they can also ride horses and practice some sports.



  • More plans: You can go to a cooking club where a top class chef is going to teach you how to cook some vegetarian and typical food so you will able to cook for yourself. But if you don't want to go you can eat out wherever you want because Boyacá has many restaurants to go to. Also many hotels have many activities for their customer so you have to organize your schedule. For example:
    I am dancing at the dance club in the morning, I am having lunch with my friends at 2 p.m, I am going to the concert at 9 pm.”
     
And what about the food?

Boyacá has a big variety of food. For example:

Aperitifs: the tradicional chica, mazato and guarapo.



Snacks: Arepas, bizcochos de almendra, cotudos, empanadas de higo, pan de yuca, canches de San Ignacio, cebolla chiroza, almojábanas de Paipa, chupe de papa criolla, envueltos de mazorca, longaniza, papas chorreadas, tamal boyacense, cuajada con melado. The majority of these foods are made of potatoes, flour, onions, rice, cheese and some fruits.



Soups: Cuchuco de maíz, cuchuco de trigo con espinazo de copartidario, changua, sopa de criadillas de cordero, sopa de pan en cazuela, caldo de costilla. There are many kinds of soups which are made of corn, wheat, meat, etc.



The main courses: Puchero boyacense, arroz tapado, cabeza y guiso de cordero, cocido campesino, costillas de cordero asado, chuletas de cerdo, mazamorra chiquita, longaniza de Sutamarchán, salchicha roja, morcilla, and fried potatoes. The typical main courses are composed of rice, meat, soups and a lot of sausages.



Desserts: Cake of cuajada (cheese), cakes of many types of fruits, roast bananas full of cheese and bocadillo, apple cake, feijoa candy, bocadillo veleño with cheese, cocadas, strawberry candy...

It Is a Department that has everything. For his ubication in the Oriental mountain chain, between the plains of Casanare and the Magdalena River, his geography has been covered by the snow-capped mountains, lakes and waterfalls.

The Iguaque Park 


It Is a Natural sanctuary
If you want to live an experience unforgettable, you should visit at Lake San Pedro of Iguaque,
To arrive this magic place, you have to take avenue Villa de Leyva –Tunja . So, you will find the national park Iguaque, where you can camping.  This park is ubicated  in a territory that belonged to different stages  of the Colombia  history .
If you want to see the landscape of frailejones, this is the most beautiful place in   boyaca.





The Cojines Village


If a day  you  dream  with  eating  a big scream, you  can taste  the  biggest  in Colombia : “el Cerro pan de azucar”  in  the  sierra Nevada of Cocuy. In the other hand you can reach the 5.380 meters under the sea level. Overthere you can climb.

P-yes, I was there ten years ago
J-Really, how long did you stay there?
P-I stayed there four months
J-What do you remember about boyaca?
P-I remember that I was in the cocuy snow-capped overthere I could climb.  I was at almost 5.000 meters under the sea level!
J-Wow! That sounds fantastic!  What else did you do?
P-also I saw different things like to visit the cojines village, and the natural sanctuary.  I went to the boyaca Cambridge as well.
It is a very important historical monument in colombia, because it influenced in the independence of Colombia.
J-oh!  That is great!

G: I have been here for two years, I mean, I’ve worked since 
T: ummm so, what is your daily routine?
G: I use to guide  my tourists at mornings to different mountains like el pulpito del Diablo, pan de azucar, and so on.
T: what do you use to do at nights?
G:  I use to camping with them. And you should go to bed now, because we have to climb the rita cuba blanco mountain tomorrow.
T: ok! Bye
